Twenty three veterans are even closer to achieving their dream career!
HVAF’s VetWorks is a multi-phase, collaborative workforce development program for veterans. The program equips and trains veterans in order to obtain and maintain good and promising jobs. These veterans completed an internship during Phase One, focused on building or re-establishing soft skills. This helped the veterans gain valuable work experience, develop workplace behaviors, and receive mentorship.
Not everyone could attend the graduation, due to work and school conflicts. But check out those who were able to attend what their next steps are:
Barry completed Phase 1 and graduated from Second Helpings Culinary Training the same day! He is also working part time doing security until he can begin looking for that dream job in the cooking world. Completing this training was a dream of his and the team is so excited for him!
Byron completed an IT internship here at HVAF. He currently attends the New Beginning Computer Training and will be finishing up in late winter/early spring of next year.
Carl completed Phase 1 at HVAF doing IT. He also finished his bachelor’s degree, along with several certifications. Now, he is completing a paid, full time internship for the Federal Government after which he will be hired at the same organization.
Chevris is working at Downtown Indy and Fedex. He plans to start his CDL training after the new year.
Jeremiah completed an outside internship. He also received his certification as a Peer Recovery Support Coach and is working full time in that field.
Michael works at Downtown Indy, Inc. and just received his 18 months of sobriety chip! He is also working towards entering CDL training.
Michael is working full time at Downtown Indy, Inc. and is working on some personal goals before deciding on his career. We call him our Troy Polamalu from the “Head and Shoulders” commercial because he is “never not working.”
Rich worked at Downtown Indy, Inc. full time and interviewed for our Team Lead position there when he completed Phase 1, which he landed! Rich now leads our Street Ambassadors daily.
Rosco completed Phase 1 by working in our Community Center and had an outside placement with Dads, INC. He is seeking employment that includes peer mentorship.
Shea is finishing her degree in Organizational Psychology, with plans to graduate in the spring. She also just received a full time job offer as a registered behavioral tech.
Thanks to WFYI for covering the graduation, which you can read here.
