A home and a job can change everything.

We are Indiana’s largest non-profit provider of services for veterans. Our mission is to provide housing and reintegration services to veterans experiencing or at-risk for homelessness.

How we fight homelessness

Housing

HVAF of Indiana provides housing to more than 150 homeless veterans through a mix of 14 properties including homes and apartment complexes throughout Indianapolis. HVAF is the largest non-profit provider of comprehensive services for veterans in Indiana. We provide services for all veterans, Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard members, regardless of discharge.

Transitional Housing

We offer temporary transitional housing for up to 103 veterans each night that includes intensive case management, therapy, employment, and legal services designed to help veterans overcome barriers and obtain permanent housing and employment.

Army veteran Pamela lived in one of our transitional housing units - Manchester Apartments - for 9 months. Now, she has a permanent place to call her home, sweet, home:

Rapid Rehousing

We offer rental and utility assistance for veterans and their families who are currently homeless or facing eviction.

Army veteran, Andre, and his wife, Carmen, fell behind on rent and utility payments during the COVID-19 Pandemic. HVAF's RRH Case Managers helped them receive rent and utility assistance, referred them to our partners at Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic to help get items expunged from his record, and connected him to our mental health experts to receive some counseling:

Permanent Supportive Housing

We now offer affordable permanent supportive housing with case management for 62 units at 6 properties.

Healthcare Navigation

Healthcare Navigation is an added service within a veteran’s enrollment in the Supportive Services for Veterans and Families grant (SSVF). SSVF healthcare navigators will work with veterans on a variety of issues to assist them in identifying and overcoming challenges to accessing the health care system or adhering to recommended health care plans. They are trained to assist veterans with the following: gaining access to health care, supporting health care plans by identifying barriers to care and supporting veteran in accessing care, providing education on wellness-related topics.

I lost everything and didn't have a place to go to. Thankfully, HVAF's case managers helped me move into my own apartment. If I need anything, they're there for me. I love living here.
